My ceramics are stunning works keeping faithful to their medium that hold an organic presence. My work explores the natural world, taking inspiration from it to create forms that have the potential to be inhabited. These ideas developed out of an interest in the natural landscape and, in particular, erosion.  I am interested in how my Fine Art ceramics practice can contribute to debates on ‘living’ architecture and the potential to create habitats with the ability to contain tiny ecosystems. I am also now interested in looking at playing with the potential of the functionality of the object. The forms/habitats sit within the context of a gallery space therefore there is only the potential for them to be inhabited. However, I have started considering placing these objects outside. I feel that they have a dual functionality; one of aesthetics in that they are sculptural but they also have a purpose to act as habitats. The works I produce sit happily within the white cube gallery context, reading as intriguing abstract sculptures made from multiple ceramic components, hung on rigid metal frameworks or bound tightly together.

The medium of Ceramics is a unique material with endless creative opportunities. It has a versatile and unpredictable nature which are the qualities that I explore within my practice. Clay is a material that has been used throughout time to create objects of function. Part of my practice is to push the traditional understanding of ceramics by bringing a new life to the functional form leaving traces of the craftsmanship behind. My work replaces the functional use of the vessel with a more abstract sculptural form. I often incorporate forms found within nature in my work.

I am currently in my Final Year of Fine Art at Newcastle University and working towards my degree show, after which I will be attending the Royal Collage of Art to study a masters in Ceramics and Glass.
